learner driver advice - recommended materials
for the theory test and hazard perception test

The study materials for the theory test and hazard perception test do get updated regularly by the DVSA so your best bet is to check on the TSO web site to see when the latest books and DVD's were published and then, once you have decided which ones you wish to purchase, you can get them from the TSO site, or a respectable book shop, or from Amazon where you will usually find a decent discount.

I do strongly recommend that you get some practice in for the Hazard Perception part of the Theory Test, whether via a DVSA DVD or online.

the official DVSA guide to driving - the essential skills

In my opinion, if you only ever have one book about driving it has to be this one. Not one to be passed on after you have your licence or consigned to the charity shop - make sure you keep hold of it for future reference. You will find further information on this book under my book recommendations for the practical test.

Once again, it is best to start your practical driving lessons whilst you are studying for your theory test as the learning curves on each side will benefit from the other. Do not rely on your instructor to magically turn you into a good driver because you paid for and turned up for the lessons. Take on the responsibility for your own learning and study and learn, rather than just having a quick read through and cross your fingers that you will pass the theory test.

This will be so beneficial in learning good safe driving skills for life and will save you money!

And once again, don't forget to check out amazon for any of the titles that you are considering buying as there is often a good discount.
