A good Instructor should be able to provide you with:

  • help and advice for the Theory Test;
  • training to equip you for the 'Show Me Tell Me' part of the driving test;
  • a well structured and personally tailored course of tuition leading to the Practical Test;
  • the 'Pass Plus' course following your test success to aid you in becoming safer and save you money;
  • a range of post test training such as motorway tuition and basic car maintenance;
  • help with any post test concerns either by means of free advice or a short course of tuition;
  • advice and/or tuition to help you on your way to becoming an advanced driver;
  • the knowledge to point you towards the associations and road safety charities that may benefit you.

But in order for you to get the most out of your lessons you will also need to feel comfortable with your Instructor and at the end of the day, someone else's "good" Instructor may not be yours! If you do start lessons with an instructor that you find you don't feel comfortable with, the best thing you can do, if at all possible, is to open up and discuss your problem in order to give him/her a chance to put things right. It is often possible that you, as a pupil, have what seems to be a huge concern that your instructor is totally unaware of and once armed with that information he/she may well be able to tailor the tuition to be more in tune with your needs. If however, you feel you can't do this you must be prepared to change to another instructor. It is your money after all and it's important that you feel relaxed during your lessons in order for learning to take place effectively.

A recommendation from friends, family or acquaintances is a good place to start but when you contact the Instructor make sure you ask a few questions (click here for some ideas to base your questions on).

Do make sure you get to talk to the instructor before you meet. Don't settle for a receptionist booking your appointment and the instructor not even bothering to call you before your first lesson. The chance to have a conversation with your potential instructor not only will give you an idea of the kind of instruction that you can expect to receive but may also provide you with a sense of whether you are likely to get on with him or her - valuable information prior to commiting to the first booking!

I would like to wish you good luck in finding the right instructor for you and if you are in our area please don't forget to call me!
